Despite its name the standard can be used to produce all building types, not just houses. Certification is also available for both new build and retro-fit projects.
The primary focus of the Passive House Standard is to greatly reduce the requirement for space heating and cooling within a building, whilst creating both excellent air quality and increased comfort levels.
It is important to note that Passive House does not dictate the design or external appearance of the building. It is simply a method of calculating the amount of insulation, glazing, thermal mass, etc, to make the best use of passive solar gain. Combine this with meticulous attention to detail (something we are particularly good at!) and rigorous construction according to principles developed by the Passivhaus Institut in Germany and this ensures that the internal climate will always be comfortable.
Mark Deverill is qualified as a Certified Passive House Designer and registered with the Passivhaus Institut, Darmstadt, Germany.
We would be delighted to discuss how we could help you with any potential Passive House or very low energy schemes you may have.
